Students from the undergraduate Computer Science programme recently took part in a field study visit to Ericsson Nikola Tesla, accompanied by programme coordinator Melani Kitić and lecturer Frane Marjanica. As the largest ICT company in Croatia and a leading regional provider of communication technologies, innovative ICT solutions, and related services, Ericsson Nikola Tesla offered students a valuable insight into the modern tech industry.

The visit was organised to give students a closer look at the company’s operations, working culture, and the technologies used in everyday business processes. It also provided an opportunity to see how theoretical knowledge gained during their studies is applied in real-world professional environments.

Real-world industry insights
During the visit, students attended a presentation introducing the company’s business activities, organisational structure, and the methodologies used in daily operations. Through conversations with employees, they gained first-hand insight into the challenges, expectations, and opportunities that come with working in the IT industry. The company’s team openly answered students’ questions and shared their professional experiences.

One of the most valuable takeaways for students was learning which skills and qualities employers value most today. In addition to technical expertise, emphasis was placed on communication skills, teamwork, adaptability, and a willingness to continuously learn and grow. Students also gained useful advice on what can make a candidate stand out in the competitive IT job market beyond having a strong CV.
The field study visit proved to be an extremely rewarding experience, helping students better understand the business environment and the practical application of the knowledge acquired during their studies. Visits like this are an important part of education at Aspira University of Applied Sciences, as they create opportunities for direct interaction with industry professionals and exposure to the latest technological trends.
We would like to thank Ericsson Nikola Tesla for their warm hospitality, the time they dedicated to our students, and their willingness to share valuable knowledge and real-world experience.
