At Uppsala University, the oldest university in Sweden, a global, traveling exhibition of Croatian emigrants “Croats united by a tie” was presented.
Thanks to the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in Sweden, Dr. Siniša Grgić, we got a unique opportunity to present the project, the exhibition and the book, “Croats united by a tie” at that oldest European university, on Monday, October 23, 2023, in the presence of students, professors and members of the Croatian community.
Since Nada Pritišanac Matulich, the initiator of the project Neckties of Prominent Croatian Women and Croats of Emigration, was absent due to illness, the author Branka Bezić Filipović spoke about the book, who highlighted the presentation at world universities as the main goal of the project in order to educate as many people as possible about the fact that the necktie Croatian invention.
She also pointed out that this is an excellent initiative that promotes Croatian identity and culture, strengthens the ties of Croatian emigrants and their descendants with the homeland, encourages cooperation in education, culture, sports, economy and many other areas.
The exhibition at the Uppsala University, located in the former capital of the same name, about fifty kilometers from Stockholm, was opened by the Croatian ambassador Dr. Siniša Grgić, expressing his satisfaction that with this project we will increase the visibility of Croatia in the world. Dr. Grgić is also a participant in the project and is recognized by the Croatian diaspora as one of the most successful Croatian diplomats.
After the world legend of Croatian roots, Charles Billich, other artists began to join this global project with their artistic creativity. For this occasion, Nives Čičin Šain from Split made two ties in the lamination technique, which were worn by the speakers during the presentation at Uppsala University.
After the presentation of the project, Ambassador Dr. Grgić and Mrs. Bezić Filipović also visited Tieroom AB, the leading Swedish manufacturer of high-quality ties based in Uppsala.
They also gave a short presentation of the tie to their hosts and informed them that the homeland of the tie is Croatia. On that occasion, the guests presented the host with the book “Croats united by a tie” as a lasting memory of this meeting and gathering.
