The first certified marina manager in Europe, prominent marina consultant and president of Marina Global Institute, Mr Mick Bettesworth gave a public lecture at the University College Aspira entitled “General outline of trends in the marina business on a worldwide basis”. The lecture was attended by Mr Joško Stella, Director of the Tourist Board of Split-Dalmatia County, Mrs Iva Kuliš, representing Croatian Chamber of Economy – Department of Tourism, Mr Vedran Matošić, adviser to the director of the tourist board of the city of Split, marina representatives and professional associations. Mr. Bettesworth commented through lecture the contents modern marina should have, but the very fact that the marina should not only be the infrastructure – marina is people. Professional and friendly people that sailors enjoy working with. Great emphasis was placed on the position of the guest of marina and the need to define services that sailors require at the marina. The lecturer then made a review of the leading marinas in the world, as well as an overview of the boating industry by geographic areas. In that way the participants were acquainted with the leading marinas that are building and the facilities and services for which it is expected that they have. Finally, he gave an overview of the boating industry and his vision of the marina development in the world and commented on the situation in the Croatian modern nautical trends. This lecture presented an introduction to the program Marina Manager, which is an integral part of the International Marina training center – the first systematic training for nautical personnel in Croatia and this part of Europe. Within the International Marina Training Center, trainings for the Head of reception, the Head of crew, the Head of finance at the marina, Marketing manager at the marina, Booking agent, Head of the charter base and many others are conducted. All programs are designed according to the needs of modern marinas, in cooperation with many Croatian and foreign experts.
