Aspira University of Applied Sciences is pleased to announce that three of our students won extraordinary prizes in the 10th anniversary “Ecotrophelia Hrvatska 2024“, a nationwide student competition focused on developing eco-innovative products!
The University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Food and Biotechnology (PBF) and the student organization ProBion organized the competition with assistance from EIT Food Hub Croatia, a partnership that consists of PBF and the innovation agency Smion. Thanks to the EIT Food Hub, participants received cash prizes for the first time in the competition’s history: 700 euros went to the winner, and 300 euros went to the runner-up.
At this year’s competition, three students from Aspira University of applied sciences in Split presented their product Tonka Jaje – a vegan confectionery product based on pea proteins, beets, barley grass, freeze-dried strawberries, stevia and cocoa butter.
The second team, consisting of five students of the Faculty of Food and Biotechnology, two students of the Faculty of Economics and one student of the Faculty of Textile Technology of the University of Zagreb, presented their product Frollica – a healthy snack made of fruit skins with blueberry and apple pomace, sweet potato, yarrow and a filling of dried figs and oats.
The Expert Committee, which included PBF professors, representatives from the businesses Hipp Croatia doo, Tim zip doo, Nutris, and Žito doo, as well as the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, unanimously decided that Tonka Jaje was the winning product. As part of the SIAL fair, our students will compete in the European competition “Ecotrophelia Europe” on October 20–21, 2024, in Paris.
We would like to congratulate our students on their exceptional achievement and wish them luck in the European competition!
