As part of the international educational program “Discover Croatia Through Hospitality,” Chinese students participated in a two-day workshop at Aspira University College in Zagreb. The aim of the program was to introduce students to the Croatian hospitality and tourism industry through educational lectures, hands-on workshops, and cultural exchange.
The first day focused on hotel management, where students learned through simulations about hotel structure, the role of a manager, front desk operations, and conflict resolution among staff. A highlight of the program was a field trip to the Hilton DoubleTree Zagreb, where participants gained firsthand insight into the standards of high-category hotel operations.
On the second day, the focus shifted to banquet organization and Croatian culinary heritage. Through workshops and practical tasks, students planned and carried out formal dinner simulations and learned about specialties from various Croatian regions. The day also featured a collaboration with the renowned Lisak Catering, which shared its expertise in preparing and executing high-level events. Students had the opportunity to see the full logistics and execution of professional catering – from planning to service.
The program concluded with a case study analysis of organizing a Mediterranean gala dinner, followed by a discussion on how the acquired knowledge could be applied to the Chinese market.
This program not only enriched the participants’ knowledge and experience but also served as a bridge between two cultures – Chinese and Croatian – through gastronomy, hospitality, and innovative education.
