Career Fair at Aspira University College is an excellent example of merging education and practice into a perfect symbiosis. Career Fair presents an opportunity for students to have their first work experiences in leading companies and organizations from the field of hospitality and tourism, sports management and IT. Due to high interest of employers, this year the Career Fair was held for 2 days, on the 7th and 8th February 2019 at Aspira Split.
The opening ceremony was held by the Dekan Alen Jerkunica who emphasized that students are the greatest possible resource in which we should invest. He noted that Aspira is trying to be a special college from its very beginning, in that it connects its students with employers and encourages employment during studies. Alongside employers, the ceremony was attended by the representatives of the City of Split, Split-Dalmatian County, Croatian Employment Agency and various vocational associations that support Aspira’s work. The audience was addressed by the head of Economic and tourism department of Split, Ela Žižić, the director of Croatian Employer Association, Vesna Ivić Šimetin, Vesna Fridl and Ana Marija Puzić before the County Chamber of Split, as well as the vice-president of Croatian Olympic Committee, Željko Jerkov.
The lecture by Dalibor Šumige entitled „Fify shades of entrepreneurship“ that took place on both Career Fair days. Šumiga is Google Growth Engine ambassador, a member of world neuro-marketing association (NMSBA) and the founder of the first behavioural agency in the Adriatic region.
The two-day event Career Fair is intended for the students of all years and study programs so thay can connect with the best world companies. This year more than 100 leading hotels, tourist agencies, IT companies, sports clubs and organizations were represented at Career Fair. Some of the global leaders in their areas who took part at Career Fair are hotels Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik, Falkensteiner and Valamar, Radisson Group, Leonardo Hotels from Germany. Some other participants from famous IT companie included Ericsson, Konzum, HR Cloud, Sedam IT and numerous sports clubs, such as Rugby club Nada, Basketball club Split, Croatian Olympic Committee, Split Sports Association, Female Football Club Marjan and company Nutricionist.
In order to prepare for their presentations to employers, students have participated in the workshops organized by Aspira and Croatian Employment Agency. According to the latest data by Centre for Business Careers Aspira, most students find their permanent employment with the employer that hired them for internship, and as many as 97% of students stay employed in their profession.
